Hartlepool Art Gallery

An art gallery with colorful graffiti on the wall, abstract paintings on the right wall, a large wooden sculptural piece in the center, and a blurred person walking past.

As part of Hartlepool Mural Festival, Hartlepool Art Gallery presents Lewis Hobson’s first major solo presentation Made In Hartlepool. Extensive and sprawling, it shows Hobson’s dedication to exploration, and passion for materials.

How does it tie into the Murals / Mural fest

A key theme the show offers up is how spray paint links both murals and graffiti, two distinct but related artforms. Hobson’s paint splattered tool archive sits next to a graffiti wall, which visitors are dared to contribute to (with or without permission). In front of it: a scale replica of the head of the Angel of The North, the internationally renowned public sculpture which was fabricated in Hartlepool before being erected in Gateshead.

Opposite the graffiti wall is a floor-to-ceiling corner display of Hobson’s mixed media works on paper
